Numerosity is the ability to know quantity either in absolute numbers or in proportions.
Training of an organism can develop the ability of numerosity and categorization in them. This is evident by a matching-to-sample task in which an organism, such as a bird is made to distinguish one numerical value from others. For instance, a bird had to match a card of four dots with the same number of dots on another card. It was able to do it correctly. This shows that the bird has the ability of numerosity. In addition, the bird was able to exhibit the ability of categorization in which they categorized similar stimuli together by discriminating between different colors and shapes, and generalizing similar ones. For instance, the bird was able to match the card of green color dots with another card that had green dots.
