First, go to ScienceDaily’s website. https://www.sciencedaily.com
Once there, hover your cursor over the Health tab in their menu (circled in red below). This will cause a drop-down menu to appear below it. Next, click on Psychology (also circled in red) under Mind & Brain, or use the Search (orange box) to find a developmental psychology topic you are interested in. Note: The topic needs to be developmental psychology-related!
After you read the article you choose, scroll down (there is probably an advertisement directly below it) to the Journal Reference. This is the research article the story is reporting on. You may be able to follow the DOI link (red rectangle) to it. Otherwise, use the reference to search for the article from the library’s website. You now have the journal article’s citation (in APA format) and can get the news story’s citation below that in MLA, APA, or Chicago style.
Read through the news article and the actual journal article. As you go, look for similarities and differences. Your post should answer the following prompts for your discussion this week:
Briefly describe and summarize both articles (the news article and the peer-reviewed article).
Compare and contrast the key points, style, and purpose of the news article with that of the research article.
Does the news article accurately describe the research? Why or why not?
Be sure to include correct APA citations or MLA citations (both in-text and in a reference or works cited page) for both of the articles.
Make sure you write a response with at least 200 words, integrating concepts you learned from the reading (including a link to the page used is necessary), and other materials (including links to outside sources is necessary). Show that you can think critically on the topic by integrating your own thoughts, analysis, or experiences.
Remember: “Questions used for evaluating your discussion posts” so ask yourself these questions:
Did you include the specific prompt/question you are answering in the subject line (especially important for discussions with different options!)?
Did you answer the questions/prompts being asked?
Did you refer to specific information in the text with a hyperlink (citation)?
Did you stay on topic and balance your personal applications with theory and research?
Did you provide a related academic website or peer-reviewed article?
