Answer the following discussion questions for the laboratory report
The laboratory report is based on the pdf file titled “Plant Lab Guidelines.”
The information to answer the questions in the Discussion section is the “Winter 2023 EEB 136 Plant Lab Data” file and must contain the data in whole polygons.”
Some information is in the file “EEB 136 Plant Lab,” but a more thorough analysis must be done with the data in the “Winter 2023 EEB 136 Plant Lab Data” file to answer the questions for the discussion section.
Discussion
What percent of the site is native vs. non-native? Think about both species richness and percent cover.
How does diversity differ within the site, and why might that be?
What do different levels of the Simpson’s Reciprocal Index mean? Think about how the Simpson’s Reciprocal Index includes two variables: species richness and evenness. Is a higher level necessarily better?
Pick out the plant species with the highest abundance and/or percent cover and explain what their roles and effects in the ecosystem might be.
Do you think the restoration project targeted any areas within your study (weeded/planted). Why/not? If yes, how effective do you think the restoration effort has been?
Do you have any recommendations for increasing native plant cover and native diversity at the site? Which polygons should be prioritized for work? Why and how?
