Does the MLA in-text citation generator invent page numbers?
No. It uses a page or other locator only when the exact consulted version displays it. It never counts pages or paragraphs or transfers a number from another edition.
What happens when a webpage has no page numbers?
MLA normally uses the author or a shortened title without a number. A paragraph number appears only when the webpage explicitly numbers its paragraphs.
When does the tool add a locator placeholder?
If a quotation or instructor requirement needs a locator from a numbered source but the exact number cannot be verified, the result displays a temporary placeholder such as [page number needed] for the user to complete.
Can I add sources I already found?
Yes. Provide a title, DOI, ISBN, or URL. The tool checks the source and uses it only where the accessible content supports your text.
